group playing games console

Sony PS3

The PlayStation 3 will not turn on. The power LED will flash green, yellow, and then red whilst making a fast bleeping noise

This is a very common fault and if your PlayStation 3 is suffering from any of these symptoms, book this repair. The fault has been attributed to the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) or the CPU (Central Processing Unit) overheating, which causes the solder balls underneath them to crack. In some cases it is necessary to remove the chips and apply new ones. This fault is often described as the 'yellow light of death' or 'traffic lights' all are the same fault. Our quality control department ensure the console has been put through a vigorous testing procedure before it is returned.

Your PlayStation 3 will not load games, Blu-rays or DVDs. The consoles drive may not accept or eject games.

If your console is displaying one or more of the above faults then your your PlayStation 3 console will probably need a new official Sony Blu-ray laser. Please bear in mind this fault can also be intermittent. Games might load sometimes, but not others, likewise some games might work over others. This can be caused by dirty or damaged PS3 games, Blu-rays or DVDs, somtime's it's difficult to diagnose. It is important to note in this case that a new laser will read damaged discs better than an old PS3 laser. If you are unsure about the quality of your discs used in your playstaion 3, please feel free to send them with your PlayStation 3 to Your Local PC Shop.

Three Red Rings Of Death / One Red Ring Error / Red Dot Of Death

Generally this fault is the result of lose solder joints under the GPU, or in some cases the CPU. The fault can also be attributed to a malfunctioning component on the main board; although that is rare. We use an BGA Microscope to look under your GPU/CPU to determine the cause of the fault, if the problem is lose solder balls, then we use cutting edge technology to reflow the board. On some rare cases, the solder under the chip needs to be replaced. In that case we fully remove the chip from the board, clean and re-ball it. Once the chip has been re-fitted, we fully test your console to make sure the repair has worked.

Touch Screen Faulty

This fault is often caused simply through wear and tear over a period of time. The screen may appear heavily scratched, actions may not occur where you press or it may not respond at all. You can test the calibration of the touch screen by going into the settings and choosing the calibration option, if you cannot pass the on screen tests your touch screen will need replacing.

Not Reading Games

This fault is usually caused by putting the DS game cartridges in the slot the wrong way round causing the pins to bend out of their original position. As slight as the bend on even one of the DS lite pins may seem trivial, it can cause the console not to read Nintendo cartridges. Inserting any other objects in cartridge slot may cause the same problem. Our trained engineers can replace these delicate pins with official Nintendo pins. Once the repair to the DS is complete our quality control team will test the console with numerous games to ensure it reads the cartridges. If you have game cartridges that do not work send them with the consoles and we will endeavour to repair those games for no extra charge. Back
